Flats can be built at Kings Premier Health Club after planning permission was given.
Two of the tennis courts will be removed and a two-and-a-half/ three-and-a-half storey building containing 17 flats erected under the scheme put forward by Kings Developments Ltd.
It will house four three bedroom and 13 two bedroom flats, incorporating underground parking for 17 cars and electric car and bike charging points.
The east elevation facing Kings road has been designed to resemble three terraced houses.
“The proposed development is in keeping with the form of development along Kings Road and will represent an enhancement to the existing situation on site,” planners said in their decision notice.
It is sited in a way that will not result in loss of light to those living nearby.
“Matters relating to leases for proposed properties, the ownership of land/walls, access to adjoining land for access or negotiating access rights (pedestrian/vehicular) have been raised but these are private civil matters that cannot influence the assessment and determination of a planning application,” planners said.
“The use of on-street parking by any members of the public (residents living in the area, visitors to the area etc.) is undertaken on a first come, first served basis. The scheme complies with the requirements of the IDP regarding parking provision and public parking in the wider area cannot affect the outcome of the application.”
Planners have put 20 conditions on the development that will have to be met for it to go ahead.
This includes how the contractors will liaise with residents and deal with complaints, measures to protect trees while it happens, and having an archaeological field evaluation before development.
The site is 55m to the east of several prehistoric monuments and find spots and 130m north of an important Iron Age occupation site.
