The organisers of the Meet the Pilots afternoon have had to change their plans due to inclement weather, forcing the event inside.
The popular static event was due to be held on the west apron between 14:00 and 17:00 today but it will instead now be focused inside at the ASG Hangar.
There was going to be a £2 entry charge for adults to get in to the event for the first time, to cover increasing costs, but that has been waived due to the inclement weather. The parking charge of £2 has also been waived.
The poor weather does also mean that not all aircraft that are participating in the 2018 Guernsey Air Display may be able to arrive early enough to take part in the Meet The Pilots event.
Organiser, Gary Elson said that while it will go ahead as originally planned it will be on a smaller scale in the new venue, inside at the ASG Hangar at Guernsey Airport.
“We know how hugely popular ‘Meet The Pilots’ is with both school children and adult aviation enthusiasts alike and neither myself, as the organiser, nor Ravenscroft, the sponsor, wanted to see it being cancelled," he said.
"ASG have been very supportive in providing an alternative ‘indoor venue’ so that the aircraft that do arrive can be part of ‘Meet The Pilots.’
“Confirmed participants include the Messerschmitt 108, the Duxford Mustang, a Guernsey Fire Service Fire Engine and Junior Joey. If other aircraft can take advantage of any pockets of fair weather and land, they will of course be included as well.”
Sponsor Ravenscroft will be running a model aircraft competition giving children the chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher.

Ahead of the Meet the Pilots event, some of the planes were already in the island by Tuesday evening, with the Duxford Mustang, Miss Helen, and Messerschmitt ME108 already here.
The 2018 Guernsey Air Display will take place on Thursday 13 September 2018 starting at 11:00 and finishing with the Red Arrows finale at 13:15. The only change to the original programme, as included in the printed Guernsey Air Display programmes, is that the Avro Anson will no longer be taking part. All other aircraft, at the time of writing, are confirmed to display and can be found on the home page of guernseyairdisplay.com
