Events today to Proclaim King Charles III

Saturday 10 September 2022

The Principal Proclamation of King Charles III will be read in London today, with a 21-gun salute from Castle Cornet to mark the occasion in Guernsey.

That will be at 11:00.

Members of the public can go to Castle Cornet to watch the gun salute. There will be no admission charge.

Anyone wanting to watch the gun salute, must enter the Castle before 10:45 and they will have to remain there until the gun salute is finished as the Castle Bridge will be closed.

Otherwise, the Castle will be open from 10:00 – 17:00 as normal.

While the Principal Proclamation itself is read in London, the Official Proclamations will also take in Guernsey the following day, Sunday 11 September, with members of the public invited to attend.

This will be simultaneous with Proclamations in the Devolved Administrations.

In Guernsey there will be a service at St James, which will include a parade to the Crown Pier for a service there, before those attending return to St James.

While flags have been flown at half-mast since the death of Queen Elizabeth II was announced by Buckingham Palace on Thursday 8 September, they are to be returned to full-mast for the Proclamation in London today, and Guernsey tomorrow. They should then be returned to half-mast until The Queen's state funeral.
