Enquiries continue following fatal car crash

Tuesday 27 April 2021

The 19-year-old who tragically died in a car crash will not be named at the current time, police have confirmed, as investigations continue into the cause of the one-vehicle RTC.

The young man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, died in the crash by the Rue des Goddards junction at around 23:30 last Tuesday.

Police arrested a 28-year-old on suspicion of 'serious driving related offences' last week, however there have been no updates provided on that.

What Guernsey Police has confirmed is that the identity of the 19-year-old who died will not be made public for now, following a request from the family to respect their wishes during this very difficult time. Police said an inquest will be opened in due course and that the teenager's identity will be made public then.

The family has asked police to "express their sincere thanks to the community for the many messages of support they have received. The family would also like to thank the first responders and staff at the hospital."

Enquiries relating to the collision are ongoing, and officers would like to hear from anyone with any information. In particular, police are appealing for any motorists who were in the area at the time or shortly after the collision to come forward.

Inspector Tom Marshall and PC James De La Mare are leading the investigation and can be contacted on 01481 222 222. Information can also be reported anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
