Enhancements to KGV clubhouse

Planning permission has been granted for the Friends of KGV to further develop the site with a raised terrace featuring an outdoor bar, keg store and extra seating.

Works to the car park are also ongoing, while matched funding from the States of Guernsey will pay for the renovation of the top floor office, which will house the Health Improvement Commission and the Guernsey Community Foundation once complete.

The newly-approved phase of work will have negligible impact on neighbours of the surrounding area, the Planning Departmenr ruled. 

“The application proposes to create a raised terrace area to the north-east of the clubhouse, creating an outdoor bar, keg store and seating area, with ramped access from ground level and linked to the existing first floor terrace with an external staircase,” a spokesman said.

“The proposed development would be limited in the context of the existing built form, and would be of limited impact on the character of the area. The terrace would be predominantly located just above ground level and the position relative to the existing building and site boundaries would prevent any adverse impact on the amenity of nearby properties. 

“Confirmation has been received that the proposed development has been designed to take into account matters of energy efficiency and current Building Regulations in accordance with Policy GP9.”

The historic site is in the middle of a three phase development, with a new entrance lobby, new layout for the Spensley Room and the creation of a lift operating across all floors of the building among the other changes that have been mooted by the Friends of KGV.
