Emotional Health Worker secured after ‘phenomenal’ fundraising

The Guernsey Youth Commission has raised £127,000 over the past three years with the help of the Royal Bank of Canada, enabling the charity to fund the salary of an Emotional Health Worker to support the island’s young people.

The fundraising has also helped pay for thousands of emotional support sessions.

“It has been an honour to partner with the Youth Commission over the last three years, working together towards our shared value and mission of supporting youth mental health,” said Managing Director at RBC, Lisa Barnett.

“The pandemic has brought with it prolonged periods of uncertainty which had a huge impact on youth mental health and so the inspiring work of the Youth Commission has never been more important.”

The biggest fundraising event over the past three years, was a charity night with UK tribute act ‘Magic Queen’ which raised more than £33,000.

Additionally, RBC helped facilitate several other fundraising events including skydives, auctions, and lotteries.

“We have been so grateful for the relationship we have built with Royal Bank of Canada over the past three years,” said Youth Commission CEO Charlie Cox.

“Through their dedication, hundreds of young people will have received support when they most needed it,” she said.

The Emotional Health and Wellbeing team, now supported by a full time Emotional Health Worker, provides one-to-one support for children and young people.
