Electric car means children can drive themselves to theatre

Thursday 03 June 2021

The journey from Frossard Ward to operating theatres at the hospital is now more fun for children following the donation of an electric car.

A children’s electric Porsche means that children who are well enough may drive themselves through the corridor of the PEH to their operating theatre.

The first child to use the car - donated by Stan Brouard - was Briony-Rae Domaille.

"The smile on Briony-Rae’s face when she drove herself to her operation was great to see," said her mother, Lucy Prevel.

"We were all a bit nervous and this calmed us all down before her procedure."

Deputy Theatre Manager Hannah Clark said the new opportunity will provide some light relief ahead of a stressful experience.

"Any operation carried out in theatre can be daunting, especially for children," she said.

"The car arrived last week, and Theatre and Frossard Ward staff have really enjoyed seeing the children arrive with a big smile on their face having driven here. We can’t thank Stan Brouard enough for their generous donation."
