A by-election will be held on Saturday 8 March to find another States Member in Alderney.
Nigel Vooght resigned as Chair of Policy and Finance, and as a States Member last weekend.
In his resignation letter he expressed his "regret" and "sadness" after his "attempts to implement positive change (have been) hindered by political infighting among the Members".
He further said, "my relationship with the States of Alderney's President has irreparably broken down over what I consider to be political interference".
Mr Vooght's resignation was accepted with immediate effect, with Ian Carter - his Deputy Chair on P&F - covering as Acting Chair until the end of this year, when his term of office expires.
That means Alderney will be starting the new year with just nine, rather than 10, States Members, and without a Chair of its senior committee.
That's despite a recent election which saw 9 candidates nominated for 5 vacant seats.
The new States Members will be sworn in during January's States Meeting, and committee seats confirmed, but with the by-election scheduled for 8 March the States will remain one Member short until then at least.
Alderney has also lost two civil servants this week, with no confirmation of what has happened or when/if either will be replaced.
The States of Alderney Press Officer is understood to have resigned from his post, while the island's Chief Executive - also known as the Chief Clerk - is believed to have been sacked.
Theo Leisjer was appointed less than a year ago. He was the fifth Chief Executive Alderney has employed in the past five years.
The decision that he was to leave the post is understood to have been made on Monday, at a meeting of the Policy and Finance Committee. This alleged decision came just a day after it was confirmed that Mr Vooght had resigned from the States.
In response to an Express query on the matter, the States of Alderney issued the following:
"In response to media and public comment regarding the Chief Clerk the States of Alderney in its role as employer has the responsibility to protect the data of all of our employees. Hence matters between an employee and their employer are for those parties only, and we do not comment on specifics relating to them."
