The plan was for them to discuss "initiatives that are working well in Guernsey and opportunities to work together more closely".

Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, President of E&I said that led to some interesting discussions.

“Energy, climate change and biodiversity are just some of the opportunities we have to work with our friends in Jersey. We’re very pleased Deputy Renouf and Deputy Jeune were able to join us today to explore ways we can work together more closely, and to take time to listen and learn from one another. With a need to reduce public costs it is crucial that we explore ways the islands can work together jointly to allow us to operate more efficiently.

“Among the matters discussed was working together on renewable energy and a commitment to collaborate on the management of invasive non-native species.”

Deputy Renouf said:

“Our jurisdictions have so many shared ambitions. We had a hugely wide-ranging agenda today, which helped ensure that each Island is aware of the other’s plans, policy considerations and the key issues being faced.

“We’re committed to working together, particularly through an offshore renewable energy working group, and also with regard to our marine environment and natural capital. To realise these opportunities we are committing to regularly meeting and, wherever possible, sharing data, knowledge and resources.

“I’m grateful to Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez and her committee for hosting us, and I look forward to working closely with them and collaborating wherever possible on our shared goals and ambitions.”
