Drink drive accused remanded in custody

Thursday 26 April 2018

A 25-year-old man has been remanded in custody following an accident along the Vazon coast road earlier this week.

Callum Hill - Smith has yet to formally enter pleas against charges including drink driving and dangerous driving.

Mr Hill - Smith appeared before Guernsey's Magistrate on Wednesday 25 April, following the incident on Monday 23 April.

He is alleged to have collided with a cyclist near the Gele Road junction, while driving from the Richmond end of Vazon towards the Albecq end. The Magistrate heard some of the details of the case and decided to decline jurisdiction, meaning the case will instead be heard by the Royal Court which has a higher sentencing power.

Mr Hill - Smith was remanded in custody until a committal hearing on Wednesday 16 May.

Reporting restrictions were imposed on the case.
