Dr Gilly Carr dropped as Alderney IHRA rep

Thursday 05 October 2023

The States of Alderney have rescinded the resolution appointing Dr Gilly Carr as its Alderney representative for the IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance).

The decision has been made in the wake of comments Dr Carr made during a presentation, where she said people in Alderney are "hostile".

Multiple sources have now confirmed that during a People's Meeting in Alderney on Wednesday 4 October, the Chairman of Policy and Finance said that Dr Carr had been removed as Alderney's representative.

Nigel Vooght has since released the following statement:

"We can confirm that we have received an apology from Dr Carr and we can confirm that in the circumstances we have rescinded the resolution appointing Dr Carr as our representative.

"We will issue a further statement next week.”

Express has reached out to Dr Gilly Carr for comment.

Update:

The States of Guernsey have subsequently published a statement indicating that Dr Gilly Carr remains the representative for Guernsey and Jersey:

"Dr Carr continues to represent Guernsey and Jersey at the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.  We have been made aware of Alderney’s recent decision in relation to representation.  We are discussing this with the States of Alderney and cannot comment further while this review continues."
