Dornier lands safely after emergency response

An Aurigny aircraft prompted a full emergency response at Guernsey Airport this morning, when it reported a potential undercarriage problem.

The Dornier made a safe landing shortly afterwards and there were no reported injuries, but welfare checks were carried out on passengers.

Guernsey Airport reported the "Full Emergency" at 08:03 with external emergency services attending as well as airport staff. The Head of Aviation Services at Guernsey Airport, Ash Nicholas said:

"The external emergency services attended at normal road speeds in support should they have been required, in accordance with emergency plans, however they were not required."

He went on to say the Dornier aircraft landed safely at 08:33 and stopped on the runway. Mr Nicholas confirmed to Express shortly afterwards that there were no reported injuries at that time:

"The passengers were disembarked and taken to the Terminal by the airport bus and were met in the Arrivals Hall by airport staff carrying out welfare checks."

The runway was closed for a short time so the aircraft could be moved but Guernsey Airport announced it had been reopened shortly before 09:00.

In a statement, Aurigny described the landing as "normal":

"The aircraft’s first approach was discontinued due to an indication of a technical issue. This was resolved by the crew following back-up procedures, before a normal landing was made.

"The aircraft landed normally and without incident."
