Ditching the razor for the PEH

Sunday 01 November 2020

Male Uprising Guernsey is asking men to #BeardUp for November once again, to raise funds for a new piece of medical equipment for the PEH.

This is the sixth year that the charity has asked men to ditch their razors for the month.

This year, it's hoping the money raised will pay for a prostate fusions scanner, so that patients don’t have to travel to Southampton and wait for up to six months for their results.

“Our aim is to raise £20,000 to go towards the purchase of this scanner which will help in the early detection of prostate cancer in men of the Bailiwick,” said Dan Collins, MUG committee member.

“The #BeardUp campaign has been a regular fixture in the Guernsey calendar for six years, and always gains great support from the community. We hope that this year the support will be even stronger thanks to the Guernsey Together Spirit.

“We know that many men ditched their razor over lockdown and embraced their facial hair, but we’re asking them to start afresh this November and grow their beard for the month.

“The past few years have seen men get creative with their beards, from some serious grooming into various styles and shapes, to dying it or adding glitter.”

Participants are encouraged to share photos of their progress on social media using the #BeardUp hastag.

More information about the BeardUp campaign can be found at mug.gg, or via the charity’s Facebook page.
