Deputy Gavin St Pier has taken the vacant seat on Health and Social Care, following the resignation of Deputy Tina Bury.
He was up against Deputy Mark Helyar, who was proposed by the President of HSC, Deputy Al Brouard.
Deputy Tina Bury resigned from her position of Vice-President of the HSC in March.
At the time, she said:
“You will be aware that the way the department handles some of the various challenges it faces hasn’t sat comfortably with me and my personal values for quite some time. Despite my best efforts within the Committee, I have seen little appetite for change in some areas. With that in mind, and at this stage in the political term, I believe there is no benefit me continuing in the hope that things might improve.”
In pitching for the job Deputy St Pier said:
“We should not be afraid to accept and articulate that the public service has serious cultural problems when it comes to complaint or criticism... It should not be accepted.
“I have the time, energy and interest in this vacancy."
Deputy St Pier received 21 votes, while Deputy Helyar received 17 votes.
There was one spoiled paper.
