The States of Guernsey will have to buy Delisles Methodist Church imminently and make it part of the new 11-18 college at Les Beaucamps under the wider proposals for secondary education in the island.
The purchase of the Church, Church Hall and surrounding land was mentioned in Education's policy letter on the future of secondary and post-16 education.
The policy letter was released on Friday and can be read here.
Express understands that the church has asked to continue using its premises until August next year.
"There is an agreement in place for the States to purchase Delisles Methodist Church, the hall opposite the church and the surrounding land owned by the church," Education, Sport & Culture's policy letter says. "The completion of this transaction is imminent. It increases the total space at Les Beaucamps by 2,786m2."
"The additional external land is likely to provide more parking. It will also ease traffic flow because it means it will be possible to use it as another drop off point without the need to access the existing school car park."
The Church and the hall opposite has "numerous potential uses for the school" according to the Education, Sport & Culture Committee.
Board member Mark Dorey, who is a member of the church, received no committee papers on this matter and recused himself from meetings on every occasion on which the purchase of the land was discussed until after the agreement had been reached between the States and the Church.
