Covid: Time running out for children to have first shots

Tuesday 30 August 2022

Children aged 5 to 11 years have until this Saturday to receive their first dose of a covid vaccine – so far, approximately 433 doses have been administered to this group.

Second doses for children will continue to be available until this time, and afterwards there will be limited availability for a second shot up to Sunday 26 November.

The Committee for Health & Social Care estimate that approximately 60 children who have only had one dose, can be received at Lukis House on La Grange.

Parents and guardians can book an appointment for their children by calling 220001.

The Committee is also preparing for the Autumn booster programme, which commences on Monday 5 September from Raymond Falla House in Burnt Lane.

Autumn booster programme

Guernsey is following the recommendations of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation in offering a booster shot this autumn to:

  • All adults aged 50 years and over;
  • Those aged 5 to 49 years in a clinical risk group, including pregnant women;
  • Those aged 5 to 49 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression;
  • Those aged 16 to 49 who are carers;
  • Residents in a care home for older adults and staff working in care homes for older adults; and
  • Front line health and social care workers.

Letters will be sent to all those eligible inviting them to book an appointment at the new Community Vaccination Centre or at their local surgery.

The Committee is reminding those included that a dose cannot be administered within 28-days of a positive lateral flow test. For those aged 12 to 17, they must wait 12-weeks after returning a positive test.
