The Ladies’ College recently welcomed sister school The Cheltenham Ladies’ College to Guernsey.

The two colleges have been connected since 1872 when Cheltenham teacher, Miss Susan Eaton, came to Guernsey and was appointed as the first Principal of The Ladies’ College.

24 Year 8 pupils from Cheltenham enjoyed the Liberation Day celebrations before meeting with The Ladies’ College Lower Four students for a weekend of hockey training run by coaches from both schools.

Helen Le Maitre, Director of Sport at The Ladies’ College, said: “We’re thrilled to have hosted CLC in Guernsey. Our girls really appreciated the opportunity to play high-quality sport against the Cheltenham team, who all put on a fabulous display of teamwork and sportsmanship.

“This visit was an excellent way to showcase the ever-growing relationship between Guernsey and Cheltenham through education and sport. Everyone had a fantastic time and we are looking forward to future events like this.”

The College hockey teams played two 11-a-side matches as preseason preparation. The A-team match ended in a 2-2 draw.

An inter-school tournament began on Saturday with players from Guernsey Hockey Club, Blanchelande, The Ladies College and The Cheltenham Ladies’ College competing in 7-a-side matches.

In Pool A The Ladies’ College narrowly beat the Cheltenham.

“This visit has really helped to preserve the historic link between the two Colleges and it was a great opportunity for the students to connect and take part in friendly competition.”
