CoFE students celebrate graduation from HE courses

17 Higher Education students at the Guernsey College of Further Education have celebrated their new qualifications at a special graduation ceremony.

The students celebrated their success and were presented with their certificates by the Bailiff Richard McMahon at The Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts.

The qualifications achieved were a mixture of Level 4 and Level 5 courses in subjects ranging from Management & Leadership to Art & Design. The latter-named was the only full-time study programme, with others completing their studies alongside their employment. 

“I really enjoyed the creative freedom that we were given on this course," said Alex Loveridge, a graduate from the Art & Design Diploma programme. 

"Our lecturers always encouraged us to develop our creativity and to explore new media. The atmosphere at the College is great, and whilst your lecturers are always there to guide you, it’s within a really friendly environment.”

Charlotte Froome was in the unique position of undertaking her City & Guilds Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training while also carrying out her role as the College's Employability & Enterprise Coordinator. 

“In my day-to-day work at the College, I help organise work placements for students so undertaking this course was a natural choice for me and a step in my own career progression," she said. "I was really well supported by the College team throughout this journey and it has opened my eyes to just how hard teachers work and how students at the College are supported to develop professionally alongside attaining their qualifications."

College Principal Louise Misselke said it was fantastic to see so many students successfully completing their qualifications.

"Their achievements are testament to their hard work and to that of their tutors. This year’s graduates had the added challenge of dealing with the changes to their study routines created by the pandemic - challenges which they faced and overcame amazingly well. 

"The College, which is now part of The Guernsey Institute, offers a range of higher education courses, giving students a real alternative to off-island study and in many cases allowing them to continue working and earning money. Our HE programme is under constant review and I am excited at the opportunities that will be available to develop it further as The Guernsey Institute structure progresses. Congratulations again to all our 2020 graduates.”
