Cliff path injury sends Flying Christine to Sark

Friday 06 January 2023

A late night incident on a cliff path in Sark saw the Flying Christine launched in the middle of the night to bring one person back to Guernsey for emergency treatment at the hospital.

The response to the incident on Wednesday night was overseen by Guernsey's St John Ambulance team and a Guernsey based paramedic who is currently working in Sark as cover for the island's doctor.

The St John marine ambulance was called out late on Wednesday night, launching from St Peter Port Harbour just before midnight.

The patient, who had fallen on cliff path, had been treated at the scene but was unable to walk so needed to be carried to the waiting Sark ambulance by the volunteer members of the Sark Fire Service and Sark Community First Responders.

They were then taken to the harbour and transferred to the care of the medical crew from Guernsey’s emergency ambulance service onboard the Flying Christine III to be taken back to Guernsey.

The marine ambulance docked in St Peter Port harbour just after 02:00 and the patient was taken to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

A spokesman for St John said this case was one of twenty calls to the ambulance service in a 24 hour period. Ambulance crews also attended two road traffic collisions in Guernsey during the day on Wednesday.
