"It is important to take the opportunity over Christmas and New Year to slow down and encourage others to pause and reflect on the joys and triumphs of 2019.
"I look back on a busy year filled with happy memories.
"One special event I attended this year was seeing our athletes perform in the Island Games in Gibralter. The sense of pride as they walked behind the Guernsey flag and the desire to do their best not only for themselves but for the community they represent was inspiring. 2020 looks to be busy in regards to the Island Games as Guernsey will be preparing to be the host for the 2021 Games. I hope many islanders can get involved in helping with the preparations and show support for the event.
"Next year marks an anniversary that provides poignant reminders of the sacrifice made by so many for our freedom. The 75 Anniversary of our islands’ Liberation will be a day of celebration and commemoration and, I hope, will continue to remind us all that we must always be prepared to fight for our freedoms and never take for granted the liberties we enjoy today.
"As many of you know, this is my last Christmas as Bailiff of Guernsey and I am extremely proud to have been able to serve our island and its people, as both Deputy Bailiff and Bailiff, over the last 15 years. During that time, I have been privileged to meet many islanders who devote themselves to helping others and I would like to say a huge thank you to them all. Working together, let us continue to strive to ensure that our island will remain somewhere we, our children and successive generations will be proud to call home.
"Thank you all for some wonderful memories. I wish everyone an excellent Christmas and happy New Year."
