Alderney will start 2025 with neither a Chair nor Deputy Chair of its senior States committee, following Nigel Vooght's resignation and the pending departure of Ian Carter.
Mr Vooght's resignation from P&F and the States over the weekend means there'll be a by-election in the new year with the States of Alderney needing to choose its new senior politician during January too.
In the meantime, it was decided yesterday that Mr Carter - the current Deputy Chair of P&F - will step up to be Acting Chair of P&F, but only for the next two weeks as his term of office ends on 31 December.
As the current Deputy Chair of Policy and Finance he was considered to be the best person for the role in the immediate short term.
"This will provide short term stability pending the annual appointments which will be considered at the January 2025 States Meeting," said the States of Alderney in a statement.
Mr Carter said: “Whilst there will always be political differences and robust exchanges within government it is important that everyone moves forward working collaboratively together in 2025.”

The States of Alderney has recently held three elections, with a by-election now pending early in 2025 too.
In November, five Members were elected to the States of Alderney for a four year term each.
Newcomer Edward Hill topped the polls with Iain MacFarlane second. Stuart Clarke was the third new Member to be elected, while Alex Snowdon and Kevin Gentle were re-elected to the States.
Alderney elects half of its States every two years, meaning that come January around a third of the island's parliament will be newcomers.
Following Alderney's general election in November, the States President William Tate was re-elected, and then Alex Snowdon was re-elected as a States of Alderney representative in Guernsey.
Steve Roberts lost his seat as the Guernsey representative, with newcomer Edward Hill replacing him, meaning there is change ahead there too.
The results of Alderney's recent elections will be ratified by the States in January, with committee elections taking place too.
That will happen on 15 January, but with a by-election to replace Mr Vooght unlikely to happen before then Alderney will still be short by one States Member for the start of the year.
Topics needing to be tackled by the States of Alderney early in 2025 include a response to Guernsey's pending emergency budget which will have financial implications for Alderney too, ongoing work to establish a course of action for the runway and airport, and a wider response to feedback on the failed trial pedestrianisation of Victoria Street.
