Castle Breakwater closing for maintenance

Sunday 09 October 2022

From tomorrow there will be no access to the Castle Breakwater for three weeks while essential maintenance is carried out.

The structure and surrounding area has been under surveillance for some time and further investigative work will be carried out to the breakwater bridge while it is closed for the current spell of maintenance.

The work starting tomorrow will be focused on the main electrical cable supplying power to the Castle breakwater Lighthouse.

That is due for repair and whilst that work is being undertaken, the Castle bridge will also be inspected.‌

“The maintenance of the Light house electrical supply is an essential and key safety feature of Guernsey’s Port service. As we exit our busiest time of the year, our focus is on maintaining the highest level of safety and care for all those travelling in and around Guernsey waters,” said Jerome Davis, Head of Port Operations.

“We acknowledge that this may cause some inconvenience to the public and thank islanders for their patience and understanding whilst our team conduct these repairs.

"Access to Castle Cornet will still be available to the public and we will provide regular updates via our social media platforms over the coming weeks.”
