Following a plea from informal carers to be prioritised in the vaccination regime, the States has announced the group will be included in the first phase of jabs.
The vaccination of this group will start with islanders in receipt of Carers’ Allowance and those who are known to service providers in the Bailiwick.
Cohort 6 focuses on people age 16 to 64 with an underlying health conditions. Informal carers will be included through a self-referral process which is soon to be released. In some cases, that will mean being vaccinated alongside the person they care for.

The implementation of the JCVI guidelines raised concerns in the informal carers group, who were left feeling “vulnerable” and missed out.
“We are delighted that for other carers who are not contacted – we have been informed there will shortly be a self-referral process for the vaccine,” announced Carers Guernsey.
