Despite having three cannabis plants in his shed, a man has been spared prison by Guernsey's Magistrate's Court.
Judge Philip Robey sentenced Sean Frampton, 51, to a four month suspended sentence, which will only be activated if he breaks the law again.
Frampton found himself before the Courts after police found the three plants during a drugs search at his house. Officers also found a cannabis filled cigarette with 0.77g of the class B drug inside.
Crown Advocate Jenny McVeigh told Judge Robey the plants had been found hanging to dry in the shed, as Frampton had grown them for a number of months until they matured.
He had started smoking cannabis when he was just 17, and carried on the habit to help cope with the pain of his arthritis. While he lived at his home with a partner and child, only he used the shed.
Judge Robey said a reference from Frampton's employer painted him in a very good light, and gave him credit for his guilty pleas.
He was given one month for the possession of cannabis, and four months for the cultivation. Both were to run concurrently, and were also suspended for two years.
