Bulwer Avenue to be partially closed for five weeks

Tuesday 14 August 2018

Bulwer Avenue will be partially closed - with temporary traffic lights - for approximately five weeks from Monday 3 September, as the next step in Traffic & Highway Services' annual resurfacing programme.

The work will be carried out under traffic lights to ensure a portion of the road can remain open, and workmen will be on site seven days a week.

It will see repairs to more than 500m of the road and kerbs in the first part of the project, and then patching will take place over the remaining stretch of the road from Longue Hougue Lane.

T&HS said the project could have been completed quicker than the five weeks planned, but that would have required the total closure of the road.

"The project could have been completed quicker than the five weeks planned, but that would have required the total closure of the road. Traffic & Highway Services works hard to minimise the inconvenience to road users and did not believe this was the best option," a spokesperson said.

"Drivers should plan for some delays to be expected, with additional time allowed when planning any journeys."

The work is being done because Bulwer Avenue has "reached the end of its service life", the spokesperson added, and there was cracking in the road clearly visible in areas and the stone barely holding together in places.
