The North Show has ensured this year's fun can go ahead, thanks to generous sponsorship from the Blue Diamond Group for the second year running.
The much-loved annual event will take place this year on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 August at Saumarez Park. As only one of two remaining outdoor events of its type on the island, the total donation of £10,000 will go a long way towards preserving the show.
In light of financial difficulties in recent years, The Northern Agricultural and Horticultural Society has said it is delighted to confirm this financial contribution, supporting both The North Show and The Battle of Flowers.
“We are extremely grateful to Alan Roper and Blue Diamond for their generosity and enthusiasm in helping us for a second consecutive year” said Gary Trimbee-Laine, the North Show Committee President.
Committee member Ian Le Moigne added; “support and sponsorship from other organisations is always welcome. We are also very keen to hear from those who might help with the set-up and take down of the showground.”
The North show committee is also working closely with the Blue Diamond Group's Le Friquet garden centre this year on a number of initiatives to support the show. Among those, the garden centre will be subsidising the cost of the first 1,000 two-day children’s tickets, on offer for just £1 each, as part of the ‘Kids for a Quid’ promotion. Other reduced rate tickets will also be available from 1 August.
Mr Trimbee-Laine is certain the promotion will prove popular since last year the child's ticket promotion sold out.
When we get to August, the North Show will be featuring all of the expected much-loved events as well as a range of professional and amateur entertainment sourced both locally and from the UK.
“We have booked some fabulous acts from the mainland this year, including motorcycle stunt riders, a clown show in the Keystone Cops mode, and a dog and duck display in which dogs work with geese and ducks. We have also a Punch & Judy and balloon performer” said Mr Le Moigne.
Market stalls and a host of entries will be displayed in the exhibition tents within the Show ground. The usual refreshments and stalls will feature as well as a showcase of Guernsey’s livestock fur and feather, fruit, vegetable, flowers, flower arrangements, cookery, photography, arts and crafts.
The Battle of Flowers display will be held on the afternoon of the second day, while bands can be heard in the beer tent with the festival finally culminating in spectacular firework display illuminating the cavalcade.
