Brexit guidance issued as political wrangling continues

What will happen with the UK's Brexit deal remains anyone's guess, but despite that work is continuing to protect the Bailiwick's interests.

Guernsey Customs & Excise published guidance last week, to help any businesses and individuals who need to import and export goods, to ensure everyone is prepared for what might happen after Brexit.

In a statement, Customs & Excise said that; "with the continuing uncertainty surrounding the UK Government’s decision on the EU/UK Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, a no deal Brexit remains a possibility.

"As a result, Guernsey Customs & Excise have published guidance for businesses and individuals engaged in customs matters on the arrangements that may be required to import and export goods after Brexit – either with, or without a deal."

The plan is for the document to assist businesses and individuals in their 'no-deal planning' and it will be updated as and when more information comes available.

Any businesses and individuals who think they may be affected by Brexit, should check the relevant pages at gov.gg/brexit regularly to make sure they've got all of the latest information affecting the Bailiwick.

The document offers advice for "various scenarios in order to make informed plans and preparations."

This includes an explanation of what a 'no deal' situation would look like and mean, including how that would affect the UK and the Channel Islands more specifically 

It also offers explanations for businesses and individuals wanting to trade with both the UK and EU post-Brexit and the different customs procedures that may be affected.
