Boat recovered after colliding with rock armour

Monday 23 September 2024

A pleasure boat was left stranded on rocks for nearly 24 hours over the weekend until a successful recovery operation last night.

The drama started at around 23:00 on Saturday night when the small motor boat found itself perched atop of the rocks at the northern end of the East Arm close to the entrance to the QE2 Marina.

There were no injuries to the two crew members aboard and Guernsey Harbour officials say there is no threat of pollution from the incident.

The coastguard attempted to refloat the boat on Sunday morning, but that failed.

Luckily they got another chance on Sunday night with the high tide at 22:30.

This time, the boat was successfully removed and brought to land after almost 24 hours of being stuck.

The incident attracted much attention locally, and it was drawn to the attention of mariners further afield too after photographs and videos were shared to social media groups such as 'Boat Fails'.

Guernsey Coastguard said an investigation into the incident is underway.
