Now in its tenth year, Bloomin’ Alderney Garden Festival is returning, to give visitors and residents the chance to visit some of Alderney’s best gardens.
From today, a daily schedule of gardens' opening times will be available from the Visitor Information Centre on Victoria Street.
Some gardens will open all week, others for just a few hours and some owners provide refreshments in return for a donation to their chosen charity.
Today, for example, at 15:00 there will be the opportunity to revisit John and Jenny Richardson’s garden at Bluestones, Longis Road in the company of horticulturalist Lee Sanders, to see the year’s progress after it was transformed from a 'wilderness' garden into an open woodland garden.
Then tomorrow, at 18:00 Adrian Stockdale FLS CIHort, author of ‘Plant Names Simplified’, will be giving a talk on the selection of native and exotic plants in his book associated with Alderney and the descriptions and meanings behind the names.
