Aurigny shares passengers frustrations as delays continue

Thursday 07 November 2024

This week's "dynamic, multi-day weather event" has left people stuck in various locations for days before they can get back home to the Bailiwick.

After fog grounded flights earlier in the week, many people were left unable to fly back to the islands with many transferring to ferries rather than wait days for an available aircraft seat.

One reader contacted Express on Wednesday morning to say that their flight from Gatwick to Guernsey on Tuesday was cancelled because of the fog. They were offered seats on a flight on Saturday instead.

They chose to fly to Jersey from a different airport before hopping on to an inter island ferry to try and get back home sooner.

Other passengers have shared anecdotes of people still being stuck elsewhere since Monday, while the boats have been "full" of people transferring from flights to the ferries.

An Aurigny spokesperson acknowledged the problems caused by the foggy weather this week, describing it as “a dynamic, multi-day weather event".

The spokesperson added that the Aurigny "team is working hard to bring islanders home".

They said foggy events such as this week "are disruptive to both our customers, and our crew, so we do appreciate how frustrating they can be".

One reader who contacted Express queried the airline's offer to refund passengers for expenses incurred while they are stuck off island for up to four days.

The Aurigny spokesperson clarified: “Aurigny will reimburse reasonable transport, accommodation, and subsistence costs. However, we’d always advise those travelling to have suitable insurance for complete peace of mind.

“Customers can contact our dedicated customer service team by calling 01481 267267 until 5pm, or through WhatsApp on 07436 422214 which is monitored between 8am and 8pm.”

Today's schedules show delays and cancellations on the Guernsey/Gatwick route, which Aurigny has said is due to "some unplanned essential maintenance on one of our aircraft".

To combat that problem, Aurigny will be using Titan Airways to operate some flights today.  The change means some flights are subject to schedule changes and staff have tried to contact passengers in advance of their travel times.
