Police warning following further disturbances

Wednesday 11 April 2018

Guernsey Police are reiterating advice to homeowners, warning them to remain vigilant with their property and premises.

This comes as early on Tuesday morning, Police received reports of someone trespassing on a private driveway in the Les Annevilles and Camp du Roi area just before 04:00.

"Police attended and searches were carried out.  There was no trace in the area, nothing had been stolen or damaged and no arrests were made," Duty Inspector Kieran McGrath said.

"We would reiterate our advice issued recently regarding security and advise people to  make sure their vehicles and property are secure at night, with windows and doors locked.  If anyone sees anything suspicious or has any concerns,  call the Police on 725111.  In an emergency always call 999."

Over the weekend, Guernsey Police also confirmed it dealt with a group of juveniles in the Rue Mainguy area, near where this incident took place. it said the issue with the group was resolved at the time and no further appeal has been needed.

Intersport

Previously, last week, two businesses in the north of the island were broken into, with "significant damage" being caused at Woodies, Bordeaux, during a forced entry. After that, Intersport on the Lowlands Industrial Estate was also targeted. Various items were taken form the sports shop after a group gained access through a back door. The goods taken were valued at £266.00

Both of those incidents are still being investigated by Police.

In its warning, Guernsey Police said traders should always ensure their valuables are secure when leaving their premises:

"Tills should be emptied of cash and till drawers left open. Any cash that has to remain on the premises should be secured in a safe and do not leave the safe key in the same premises. In many cases break-ins are opportunist crimes and can be prevented, as long as you take the right precautions. Doors and windows need to be secured and locked and any alarm, CCTV system or security lighting system should be switched on."

The statement also added that people should not leave valuables on display in their vehicles and cars and their boots should always be locked.
