Athletics awards for Chalmers brothers, and dad!

Saturday 10 February 2018

Alastair and Cameron Chalmers have both been named Guernsey's Athlete of the Year in their respective age groups while their dad, Chris, was given a Growth Mindset Award at the annual Guernsey Athletics Club awards night.

The brothers were both named Athlete of the Year, with Alastair Chalmers claiming the title in the U17/U20s category for his achievements throughout 2017 which included "his best performance over the lower U18 height hurdles", at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas, where he "easily took the title" and "despite an early celebration, he broke the British U18 record with his time of 51.22seconds."

Older brother, Cameron, was named the senior athlete of the year at last night's awards ceremony at the Farmhouse.

The judges chose Mr Chalmers saying he was a "standout performer on the national 400m scene" with continued success on the track including at the national England U23 Championships where he "came away with another title, another championship record and another island record and a PB of 45.64 seconds - a time which ranks him 44th in the all-time senior UK ranking and 5th in 2017."

The Chalmers brothers' dad wasn't letting them take all of the glory at the annual celebration hosted by Guernsey Athletics Club. Chris Chalmers was given the senior Growth Mindset Award for his work with the club and its members. The junior award went to Jayden and Sarah Creber.
