The painting behind the compelling ‘Occupied’ film poster will be displayed at the Guernsey Museum at Candie Gardens until 5 September.
Graphic designer, illustrator and artist, James Colmer, was offered the opportunity to design the poster by ‘Occupied’ director, Alex Bates. Mr Colmer decided it was "too juicy a job to turn down."
Released in May 2021, ‘Occupied’ is based on the White Rock bombing on 28 June 1940, which accelerated the German Occupation of Guernsey. The bombing killed 34 people and another 33 were injured.
Mr Colmer’s work is Guernsey Museum’s Artwork of the Month, in accordance with screenings of the film at Castle Cornet earlier in August.
The powerful film poster reflects Mr Colmer’s artistic style. "In the people and places I paint, I try to bring out their personalities and emotions to create something deeper and more colourful than just a straight landscape or portrait."
To see the painting behind the poster, Guernsey Museum is open daily 10.00-17.00. Normal admission rates apply.
