Embrace your creativity and read all about these events, and more, below!
The Havelet Regatta is an exciting new event joining St Peter Port’s calendar on Sunday 3 September from 10:00 to 18:00.
Supported by Voyonic Group and raising funds for the Guernsey Cheshire Home, the event will bring a variety of activities and attractions to the south of St Peter Port, on the land, sand and sea at Havelet Bay.
There will be a full schedule of events for families and corporate teams, including the much-anticipated office chair race, alongside seaside fun of a classic regatta.
Keep an eye out for the screen printing station, supported by Guernsey Arts!
Offering care and opportunity to people with serious physical disabilities, the Cheshire Home does not receive direct States funding towards its running costs of around £1 million, so the Regatta supported by Voyonic aims to make a real financial difference to the Home.
In keeping with this, accessibility and inclusivity will be a cornerstone of the event, with something for everyone.
Supported by Guernsey Arts, this is a festival all about getting people singing.
With over forty choirs on the island regularly rehearsing and performing, Guernsey is a world leader for choral activity for the size of its population. And, better still, the variety of musical interests and abilities makes Guernsey’s choral community inclusive and accessible.
We want to showcase what our local choirs love about singing through a programme of performances, workshops and community initiatives that will run throughout the festival.
On the first evening, you can catch ‘Flying the Nest’ by The Choir of St Mary Magdalen Church, Oxford, at Town Church! On 8 September at 18:30.
The choir of St Mary Magdalen Church, Oxford, is widely regarded as one of the finest parish church choirs outside London. The professional 8-strong choir sings at High Mass every Sunday morning and on other major feast days. Its repertoire is diverse, ranging from Josquin des Prez (b. 1450) to Marco Galvani (b. 1994). The choir is well known for its love of William Byrd's music, and this concert programme will be based around Byrd’s majestic Mass for 5 Voices, interspersed with Renaissance masterworks by composers including Schutz, Allegri, Phinot and Guerrero.
The concert will be dedicated to the memory of Diana Curtis, mother to Liz who will be singing in the choir.
The Mariposa String Quartet comprises of professionally qualified local musicians.
The ethos of the quartet is to provide versatile, professional quality music for recitals, events and functions. The players draw from combined experience performing chamber music recitals, outreach workshops, and session and improvisation work.
Originally formed in Guernsey, the quartet has also performed in London and Jersey. Mariposa can provide an extensive variety of repertoire to suit any occasion. Join them at Candie this September!
Candie Gardens Concerts are presented to you by the Guernsey Street Festival, with live music running from May-September. These are free events, but you can support the organising charity with donations.
Life drawing group running every Wednesday 19:00 - 21:00.
Please arrive at 18:50 to allow time to grab a drink, socialise, and set up before beginning. There is no need to book or bring anything - although you are encouraged to bring your own floor cushion.
This group is open to all abilities!
If you're completely new to life drawing, it is drawing a nude figure who will hold poses varying from 1 minute to 20. The models vary in experience but are all fantastic women. The session is not taught, but rather run with a relaxed “give it a go” attitude. However, please do ask for tips on measuring, angles, shading, materials, and general approach if you would like.
The cost is £10 cash or £11 by card.
Drink & draw is based upstairs at the Golden Lion. You are welcome to bring your own materials if you wish. However all paper and basic supplies (pencils, charcoal, markers, etc) will be available on the night and are included in the cost of attendance.
Drink & Draw also offers private hire for birthdays, hen dos, or just getting extra practice in. Contact grupping.art@gmail.com or on our facebook / instagram for any enquiries.
You’ve all heard of Iris and Dora’s popular late night pottery Thursdays... Well it’s so popular that they’ve added an extra date and are trialling a new Wednesday session!
Pottery painting is the perfect way to enjoy an evening out with friends or family. Why not come along with a work colleague, or by yourself? It’s a great opportunity to meet new people! If you’re new to the Island or just want to get out more, come along and have some creative fun in a relaxed atmosphere.
Don’t forget, you are welcome to bring along food/drink of your own, or have no food at all. We also have cold drinks and a coffee machine.
Please note that we require a minimum of 20 people for the evening to go ahead.
Join Catioroc, a Guernsey-based traditional music band, for their weekly Irish Session at The Drunken Duck.
The session is open and visitors are most welcome - so head down to enjoy the songs, tunes and good craic!
Irish sessions will be running up until 28 December, 20:00 - 23:00.
Focus and relax; practising Asian Calligraphy & Art therapy in the morning; a delicious special set lunch at Hathaway's restaurant is an optional extra; some gentle mindful body movement and, finally, relaxing to the vibrational sounds of Himalayan singing bowls, in the afternoon.
Please contact Louise or Viviane (details on poster) to secure your place and get more details!
