Guernsey Arts welcomes people of all ages to dive into the local art scene and find out what's happening this coming week - with everything from classes to competitions, and gigs to exhibitions.

Read on for a taste of what’s going on:

2023 Guernsey Arts Open 

Guernsey Arts, with support from Bailiwick Estates, are pleased to bring the Guernsey Arts Open back to The George Crossan Gallery this Autumn.

The Guernsey Arts Open highlights the strength of our island’s artistic talent, giving the opportunity to local artists of all ages and experiences to exhibit their work alongside each other.

It is free to submit your work and submissions can be in any art form including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, textiles, illustration, graphics, digital art and film. Submissions are open until Monday 28th August.

Should you require a physical form get in touch with Guernsey Arts to arrange to collect one.

SOUND Sessions 2023

Supported by Guernsey Arts, the Sound Summer Sessions return this year with another full programme of music mentoring for ages 11-18.

Sessions are free to attend and cover a wide variety of aspects of performance and the music industry, including songwriting, sound & light tech and instrument specific sessions.

You will learn how to promote yourself, improve your stage presence, and much more in these sessions led by experienced local musicians.

Sessions will run from 21 to 24 August with days split into two subjects. You can attend as many sessions as you like.

What to expect: 

  • Group sessions of up to 20 people
  • Different sessions concentrate on different subjects and some of the content will be decided in the opening discussion with the students present
  • A relaxed, fun, informal learning experience, with great mentors
  • A safe place to be as good or bad as you think you are
  • The opportunity to take what you learn and use it at St James in the future
  • An excellent end of session party on the 25th of August

What not to expect:

  • There is NO one to one tuition on how to play an instrument Parents or guardians cannot sit in or hang around
  • Any books, tests, or playing from written music Scores, rankings, results, reports or notes

Twist and Shout Tour - Friday lunchtime tour coming up!

Gain a "behind the scenes" look at the popular exhibition Twist & Shout on Friday 25 August, at the Guernsey Museum at Candie.

The eclectic exhibition showcases artwork by local artists in celebration of The Beatles performing at Candie 60 years ago.

This 30 minute tour is hosted by Guernsey Arts and starts at 12.30pm. There is no need to book to attend and it’s free with your Discovery Pass. 

The exhibition is curated by Guernsey Arts and supported by Skipton International.

The Eleanor Foundation - Bill at the Tav

Tickets are selling well for this night at The Fermain Tavern on 25 August (7.30pm to -11.30pm).

Don't miss out on a rare opportunity to see the amazing Bill Adlard and the Blues Kings with fantastic support from Gregory Dominic Harrison and the Bare Minimum.

It'll promised to be "a night to remember", supporting The Eleanor Foundation in its work to deliver life changing projects to people and communities in Tanzania.

The Marley Experience

The Marley Experience is back at St James again this year for this year's Summer Party.

After a great sold out show last year, the band will again be celebrating the king of Reggae Music, The Legendary Bob Marley. 

Playing all his greatest hits, the band is sure to get the audience singing and dancing along, and creating a great summer vibe. 

The forecourt will be turned into a great space to enjoy drinks and bbq food outside, for THE summer party at the top of town.

Last year's Summer Party sold out very early - so make sure to grab your tickets ahead of time.

26 August 2023, with the bar open from 7pm and music from 8pm. All ages are welcome but U14s must be accompanied by an adult.

Looking Deeper - Plein Air Session by Rosanne Guille

This is a tutored 'en plein air' painting session, taking place between 11am and 4pm on 28 August, in the beautiful grounds of Saumarez Park.

You will receive four hours of instruction and help from Rosanne Guille on how to paint outdoors.

No previous experience is necessary, as all levels of ability are welcome.

Spaces cost £75 per person with a maximum of 8 places.
