Another record year expected for the Milk Run

Monday 04 February 2019

With New Year's resolutions still directing some people's fitness regimes, it's thought 2019 will see another bumper year of sign ups for the Father's Day Half Marathon.

The organisers of the popular annual event have launched the 2019 run with high expectations.

They've said they're already "eagerly anticipating another great turnout of both runners and spectators on Sunday 16 June, following the success of last year’s event."

The Father’s Day Half Marathon attracted its biggest entry in recent memory in 2018, with 800 runners signing up to take part. Coordinated by Guernsey Athletics and sponsored by the Guernsey Dairy it is expected to be another sell out this year too.

“As the main corporate sponsor, the Dairy is proud to lend its support to such a prestigious event in the local sporting calendar. Working closely with Guernsey Athletics we are looking forward to organising another great day out for the whole family. Whether a seasoned athlete, park runner, first timer or being there to support friends and family it is sure to be a memorable day” says Andrew Tabel, General Manager of the Guernsey Dairy.

“Whatever the motivation for running, the atmosphere and scenery along the route is exceptional, from nervous anticipation at the start to the euphoria having crossed the finish line to basking in self-satisfaction of having completed the challenge. As sponsors, we are encouraged to see the event grow in popularity and, in doing so, raise awareness of the benefits of adopting a healthy lifestyle. Integral to Island life, the dairy industry is passionate about reinvestment into the community and we couldn’t think of a better event to achieve this.”

This year’s event will start at 09:00 at L’Eree and will finish outside the Information Centre on the St Peter Port seafront on Sunday 16 June, covering 13.1 miles along the west, north and east coasts of the island.

Paul Ingrouille, of Guernsey Athletics says; “planning and preparations are well underway with ‘all hands on deck’ to make sure the success of last year is continued. 2019 will mark the 19th year Guernsey Athletics has organised the Milk Run and we are again hoping for a big field and are wanting to replicate the buzz of the closed town seafront finish area.

“The sponsorship from the Dairy is a great match for us - pairing a natural, local product and an active, local sporting event that are both firmly embedded in the heart of the Guernsey community. We’re looking forward to working together again.”
