Another Deputy steps down from Economic Development

Thursday 11 January 2018

Deputy Jennifer Merrett resigned from Economic Development today to give an opportunity to "someone with the same energy and enthusiasm to join".

This comes soon after Deputy Charles Parkinson was made the president of the committee, replacing Deputy Peter Ferbrache.

Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher, the former Vice President, also resigned after he was not elected to replace Deputy Ferbrache.

Deputy Merrett said she has given the matter "careful consideration":

"This will give an opportunity for someone with the same energy and enthusiasm to join the committee to continue to build on the foundations laid and progress the committee's mandate.

I chose to step down before the January debate in order to allow the States the opportunity to fill both vacant seats on the Committee at once, rather than in successive meetings, as this was clearly in the interest of good governance. I believe I have contributed usefully across the mandate of Economic Development during my time on the committee, and am grateful to have had the opportunity to do so".

The Economic Development plan is scheduled for debate by the States in the upcoming meeting, due to start on Wednesday 17 January.
