Today's Recovery in the Community Fayre will see the Amy Winehouse Foundation - among many other local and UK guest speakers - giving talks and presentations of their own personal accounts of recovery from addiction and mental health issues.
The Fayre gives a stage to people to talk and listen about their past problems, in the hope to inspire those who need help with current problems to overcome them.
During the lunch, which is being provided by local charity Caritas, there will also be a number of stalls promoting initiatives that the island already has to offer to enable participants to learn more and the support and advice available to them.
In the afternoon, participants will choose two 45 minute workshops offering practical support to assist in their recovery such as Good Mood Food, Inspiring Young People to reach their Potential, Confidence Coaching and an introduction to SMART recovery.
"This year the theme of the day had been driven by the community," Andrea Nightingale, from the Drug & Alcohol Strategy, said.
"Helen, who was one of the speakers last year and members of our working group has visited as many community projects and asked the members what they would like to hear and see during our event.
"All islanders, at some stage in their lives may be affected by or working with those suffering from addiction and/or mental health problems. We welcome individuals, family members, professionals, agencies and organisation representatives. We really hope we can continue to embrace and motivate the Community to remain on our journey to making Guernsey a real Recovery Community."
The Amy Winehouse Foundation's representative this year will be Joe Sheerer, who runs a resilience programme in London, managing relationships with schools, recruiting & training volunteers in recovery and delivering talks and workshops to young people to help them be more resilient and less likely to misuse substances.
Other speakers will include Clare Kennedy, the actor from Coronation Street, and Peter Sheath from Emerging Futures.
The free tickets for this event can be found here. It starts at 09:00 with coffee this morning, and will run until 16:30 at Shiloh Church.
