"All the gear, no idea!"

Friday 26 April 2019

In their words, not ours, five men are cycling around two countries and one island for two excellent causes despite describing themselves as having “all the gear, no idea.."

The 800km challenge will see the group, one of whom has links to Guernsey, arrive in the island at lunchtime today as they try and raise as much money as possible for the Guernsey Disability Alliance and Prostate Cancer UK.

In total, the challenge should take them six days and while in Guernsey they want to cover 23km. They've already cycled through France and tomorrow they'll be sailing to England, before cycling to Buckingham Palace.

Surgeon Martin Connor is one of the cyclists and he said they were keen to include Guernsey in their route and to support the GDA.

“I became aware of the work of the GDA through my connections with Guernsey. When I explained the GDA’s objectives to my team mates, they were keen to see if we could help. The team, comprised of doctors from the UK, care passionately about respecting the rights and dignity of persons affected by disability.”

The five strong team of cyclists would like other riders to join them on the Guernsey leg of their trip when they arrive this afternoon.

Their ferry is due in at lunchtime, with their ride around Guernsey due to start at the White Rock at 13:30.

They aim to be back in town and at the Yacht Club by 14:45 after cycling around the island, going anticlockwise around the north of Guernsey first.

Anyone who wants to donate to the GDA through the challenge can do so here.
