Alderney steps up search for new CEO

Wednesday 03 February 2021

Alderney will be interviewing potential new CEO's next week as it ramps up the search for a new leader of the island's civil service.

Andrew Muter's ill-fated term as Chief Executive of the States of Alderney came to an end in November, four months after he went AWOL, leaving the island with no apparent intention to return.

Former Environment Services Director Richard Nash, who has over 40 year' experience working for the States of Guernsey, was named Deputy Chief Executive in January and given the task of leading Alderney’s civil service until a new Chief Executive is found.

An appointment board has been set up by the Policy & Finance Committee, consisting of Ian Carter, its Chairman,Bill Abel, Alex Snowdon, Annie Burgess and Alderney President William Tate.

“We are interviewing a number of candidates in the week commencing 8th February and in the meantime we are remaining in contact with Guernsey Chief Executive, Paul Whitfield, over the alternative of a secondment," said Mr Carter.

“We are optimistic we will be able to find the right person for this critical role of leading the civil service and supporting the Committees."

Due to the pandemic, the interviews will all be conducted by Microsoft Teams.  All States Members will be given the opportunity to meet the candidates virtually.

Once the appointment board has made its decision, it will recommend its preferred candidates to the Lt-Governor Sir Ian Corder who, under the Government of Alderney Law, has to approve the appointment.
