Alderney to follow Guernsey's lead on Phase 5c

Tuesday 22 September 2020

Alderney’s Policy and Finance Committee has announced the island will move into Phase 5c at the same time as Guernsey, however Sark will not.

No date has been set for the move, which will see people from a 'Group B' region tested on arrival. Those with a negative result will be released into passive follow-up before a confirmatory test on day 7.

Alderney officials are mindful of their limited resources, which is what delayed their move into Phase 5b. However, they are confident that the island will be able to move into Phase 5c alongside Guernsey.

The categorisation of Group A, B and C countries will continue in Phase 5c, with Group A travellers required to self-isolate for 14 days.

Currently, most of the south of England, including Southampton, are included in Group B – but London, the north of England, Scotland, Wales and both Irish territories are part of Group A.

Sark moved into Phase 5b at the same time as Guernsey, and has been following the guidance given by Director of Public Health Nicola Brink. However, a spokesperson for Sark’s Pandemic Emergency Committee has confirmed that Sark does not plan to move into Phase 5c with the rest of the Bailiwick.
