Alderney declares public holiday too

Saturday 22 June 2024

Alderney has followed Guernsey in declaring a public holiday for Tuesday 16 July, when the King and Queen visit the Bailiwick.

On this occasion, they will only be visiting Guernsey but the States of Alderney has said it is a cause for celebration.

The island's Policy and Finance Committee agreed in their meeting earlier this week that the date will be a Public Holiday with the States due to approve it formally at their meeting on 10 July.

King Charles III will make his first visit to Guernsey as Monarch accompanied by his Queen Consort, Camilla.

The couple visited the Bailiwick together in 2012, when they spent time in Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, and Herm, while His Majesty has made numerous prior visits too.

On this occasion, the couple will be in Jersey on Monday 15 July before visiting Guernsey the following day.

They won't have time to visit the other islands of the Bailiwick so plans are being developed for Alderney and Sark to be represented at events in St Peter Port.

More details related to the visit, and where members of the public can see the King and Queen will be released closer to the time.
