“Abandoned in January outside the school”

Tuesday 23 January 2024

“Excessive unruly behaviour” led to a bus load of school children being returned to St Sampsons High in a move one parent called “horrendous”.

The 5B picked up a group of school children from St Sampsons High yesterday [22 January] and subsequently returned to the school less than quarter of an hour later.

Express spoke to one parent who said his 11-year-old child was made to then leave the bus and wait to be picked up.

“It’s horrendous behaviour,” he said. “They were abandoned in January outside the school – and this wasn’t one child, this was a bus load of students.”

The parent said they would be complaining to CT Plus and Education about the incident.

CT Plus said claims that the bus driver was lost are incorrect, and the incident happened because of “excessive unruly behaviour”.

“Requests from the driver to stop this poor behaviour were ignored,” said a spokesperson.

“Unfortunately, excessive unruly behaviour on school buses can be distracting for drivers.

“CT Plus liaises with Traffic and Highways Services and The Education Department so that poor behaviour can be managed.

“For the safety of all those onboard on school buses, buses where unruly behaviour is taking place can be returned to the school so as senior teachers can directly address the matter.

“The driver gave a warning that the bus would have to be returned to the school if the poor behaviour continued.

“The school was notified while the poor behaviour continued on the bus and was told that the bus would be returning to the school.

“This bus was not lost, it was returning to the school.”

The school has since confirmed that it is “in conversation” with CT Plus about the incident.
