Six months in prison for various drug offences

Tuesday 24 September 2024

A Welsh man has been sentenced to six months in Guernsey's prison after importing and possessing illegal substances.

Kyle Luke Gatter was sentenced by the island's Royal Court on 18 September, for four different drug related offences.

All four counts involved Class-C controlled drugs.

The first offence occurred on 3 April this year, when Gatter attempted to import two 10ml bottles of liquid steroid, with another bottle showing trace amounts of drugs.

Counts two, three, and four all refer to the importation of drugs, where Gatter was found to have imported various steroids using the postal system. This included steroids in pill and liquid form.

The 34-year-old from Wales was working in the island as a labourer when these offences occurred,

He already had a variety of convictions in the UK, including possession with intent to supply, criminal damage, and drink-driving.

In statements made to law officers, Gatter claimed the steroids were intended to provide “a little bit of help” for body building, and that he was not a “big user” of the substances.

Despite having been bailed, and being told not to leave the Bailiwick, Gatter was found at the Condor Ferries Departure Terminal by Border Agency Officers in June.

12 days later he pleaded guilty to the drug offences in court and was remanded into custody in early July.

He has been in custody since then with his jail sentences backdated to run from the date he was first remanded into custody.

He was sentenced to six months in prison for each count, all of which were ordered to run concurrently.
