A Draft Development Framework has now been published by the States of Guernsey Planning Service and will provide guidance on how the Belgrave Vinery could be developed.

The proposed site is mainly States owned and is made up of the Fontaine Vinery and part of the former Belgrave Vinery.

The Policy & Resources Committee, with the Committee for Employment & Social Security, have partnered up with the Guernsey Housing Association to look at options for the site.

The site, in the Island Development Plan, has been designated as a Housing Allocation site and was eyed up for development several decades ago.

The public framework provides guidance on how the site could developed and what policies affect any decisions made with the land.

Work on a Draft Development Framework for the site in St Sampsons started back in 2019. A number of light industrial businesses used to base their work from the site; however, most were relocated to Griffith’s Yard last year.

“Many in the community will have known that this site is one the States views as key,” said President of the Development & Planning Authority, Deputy Victoria Oliver, “in addressing some of the island’s affordable housing needs.”

“We’re keen for Islanders to submit their views before the February deadline.”

The deadline for responses is 17:00 Thursday 11 February 2021 – you should email your comments to planning@gov.gg.
