Taking a dip will raise hard cash for charity this summer as 30 bays in 30 days returns.
Raising money for Les Bourgs Hospice, the month-long challenge aims to get as many people as possible to swim at beaches around the island.
Entering as teams of six, people can either do a group swim or divide up the bays between them to achieve swimming all 30 within the timeframe. And after being inaccessible last year, secluded Petit Port makes a welcome return.
Three beaches from Herm have also been added for day trippers to tick-off. For the first time, a new family element has been added. Nine of the more accessible bays, and ones with kiosks and toilets, are included for a less arduous Nine Bays in 30 Days. Cobo, Vazon, Portelet, Pembroke, L’Eree, Petit Bot, Ladies Bay, Port Soif and Grandes Rocques are the chosen bays for this new challenge – registration is £20 per family.
Alongside the charity initiative, a new environmental-aware policy has been added, with Plastic Free Guernsey being supported in its efforts to reduce the use of single use plastics – a movement which has gained significant traction since the release of Blue Planet II on the BBC earlier this year. Rocq Capital have donated special beach bags to be used, in an effort to stop people using plastic carrier bags. Bathing caps will also no longer be provided.
Anyone who does not want to swim, but take part, is being asked to visit the bays to do a beach clean.
All money raised is donated to Les Bourgs Hospice, which says any donation big or small will make an difference and go toward the £800,000 needed to be fundraised every year.
