2019 Community Awards to open for nominations

Sunday 04 August 2019

The Guernsey Community Awards will soon be accepting nominations for this year's event, which will take place in November.

The awards are organised by the Guernsey Community Foundation and celebrate local charities, groups, individuals who have given their time to help with community projects.

There are a number of prizes on offer including the Youth Award, Outstanding Individual Achievement, Innovation Award and Charity of the Year.

"These will be our 9th Community Awards, which have become a bright light to shine on those individuals and organisations who give so much to our community," said Jim Roberts from the Foundation. "The quality of submissions is always high, reflecting how important they are to those who are nominated.

"Our experienced panel of judges make the difficult decisions and we encourage as many submissions as possible. Applications for voluntary work of all shapes and sizes are most welcome as the awards are proud to reflect the diversity of the work going on locally. We wish everyone the best of luck."

One of last year's successful applicants was Investec Private Bank, which won the award for Corporate Social Responsibility. The company was recognised for its work with Amherst and La Mare de Carteret Primary schools, as well as its long-term partnerships with local organisations.

Deputy Michelle Le Clerc accepted the prize on behalf of the company and said: "The Guernsey Community Awards are incredibly important. Not only do they showcase the amount of voluntary work and fundraising that takes place in Guernsey, they are recognition for those people who give up so much of their time to help others.

"It was a great surprise to win last year's award, but I would say to be nominated is, in itself, a great accolade and would encourage as many people and businesses to step forward and share the limelight for their amazing work."

Nominations open later this months and more information is available on the Community Awards website.
