£1k reward for missing cat's safe return

Tuesday 08 February 2022

A very timid kitten named Mittens has escaped and her owners and Guernsey Animal Aid are appealing for help to find her.

Mittens was staying at the Animal Aid shelter when she got out. Sue Vidamour, who runs the charity, has put up a £1000 reward to try and speed up her safe return.

Mittens' family lives near the Oberlands in St. Martin's. Animal Aid is near La Chene traffic lights.

There has been a sighting of Mittens on La Rue des Pages in St Martins, giving hope that she might be trying to find her way home.

Mittens' owner, Laura Riley, said there were two sightings of her kitten in the first couple of days after she escaped.

"She will not be approachable, " said Ms Riley.

"We've had her since she was tiny and she is really really skittish."

Ms Vidamour from Animal Aid has also described Mittens as "timid".

The charity is using humane traps to try and recapture Mittens. And Ms Vidamour is said to have been "up all night watching the traps that are set around our property".

Ms Riley said Mittens is a hunter. Therefore, she is not worried about her going hungry as she will most likely prey on rodents.

She said that anyone who spots Mittens should not approach her, but they may be able to interest the kitten with her favourite food.

"She really likes cheese, so just a little bit of that as a treat may be enough to tempt her," said Ms Riley.

Ms Riley is asking anyone who spots Mittens to call her immediately on 07781 157 122 or Animal Aid on 07781 101 05.

Taking pictures would help to avoid any chance of mistaken identity and confusing Mittens with other cats.
