The first major plot twist of E3 2018 has arrived – Amazon has confirmed the seemingly joke Alexa skill that lets gamers play The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim using just voice commands does in fact exist.

Shown off during games developer Bethesda’s E3 event in Los Angeles, the video was framed as a self-mocking joke about how keen the gaming firm is to get Skyrim on as many platforms as possible.

As well as showing it running as a choose-your-own-adventure game controlled through voice, it was also shown running on Samsung smart fridges and pagers among other devices.

Initially, Bethesda was applauded for its very good self-deprecating humour, but now Amazon has confirmed the skill does in fact exist and can be downloaded by users in the US via the Alexa app.

Sadly, there’s no word on any availability for users in the UK and elsewhere yet, and Bethesda has not responded to requests for more information.

But hopefully soon, we will all be able to explore Skyrim using just our voices, with Alexa alongside us.
