Snapchat’s latest redesign starts rolling out

Snapchat has started rolling out another update to its design, one that undoes some of the changes made in a major revamp last year that was met with a cold response by users.

After the service announced and then began introducing a large-scale redesign of its app late last year, more than a million people signed a petition calling for the app to switch back.

Many were unhappy with changes to the app’s layout, which Snapchat had reorganised to separate the “social” and “media” aspects of the app, as the chief executive Evan Spiegel put it.

But users called the change confusing and many claimed they were using the service far less as a result – one tweet from reality star Kylie Jenner expressing such concerns sent the company’s stock price tumbling.

Now Snapchat appears to be responding, with the Stories feature being moved from the Friends to the left of the camera – an initial change that upset many – and are now back to the right of the camera screen when the app is opened.

However, Snapchat is not giving up on its separation idea, with Stories now appearing above media content in their own labelled section.

There’s also a new Subscriptions feed for popular Snapchat creators and publishers.

But even this latest compromise does not appear to have appeased all the app’s users, with many taking to social media to vent at yet another change.

For now, the latest update is only rolling out to iOS users, with no word on when it will reach those on Android.

The platform will be hoping for a more positive response once users get acclimatised to the latest tweaks.
